California Born and Raised
Dr. Michael A. Miyasaki is a Sacramento native who graduated from the University of Southern California School of Dentistry in 1987. With more than 35 years of clinical experience, he has built his career around comprehensive, minimally invasive aesthetic and restorative dentistry, emphasizing function and long-term oral health.
Throughout his career, Dr. Miyasaki has worked alongside respected dentists and contributed to the profession in several roles. He has served as editor-in-chief of a dental magazine, held executive positions with dental companies, and established himself as a speaker, educator, and mentor.
His professional interests also include evaluating dental materials, techniques, and technologies. In endodontics, for example, he has focused on approaches that support effective canal navigation while preserving as much healthy tooth structure as possible.
In 2022, Sacramento Magazine recognized Dr. Miyasaki as a “Top Dentist” and “The Face of Lifetime Dental Health.”
A Family Legacy in Dentistry
Dentistry has been part of Dr. Miyasaki’s life for generations. His father served as a dentist in the Navy before practicing dentistry for several decades.
His family has also played an important role throughout his own career. His wife worked alongside him for many years, his sons have contributed to the practice, and his daughter, Dr. Yasmine Peterson, now practices with him at Miyasaki Dental.
Working alongside the next generation reflects the practice’s multigenerational nature while allowing the team to combine longstanding experience with newer perspectives in dentistry.
Building Treatment Around the Patient
Dr. Miyasaki believes that treatment decisions should involve the patient. After completing a comprehensive evaluation, he explains the condition of the teeth, gums, bite, and other relevant structures, discusses the available options, and then develops a treatment plan.
That approach reflects a central part of the practice’s “Dentistry 2.0” philosophy: moving beyond reactive dentistry toward prevention, education, thoughtful diagnosis, and treatment planning supported by appropriate technology.
Continuing to Improve
Dr. Miyasaki describes improvement and adaptability as important parts of a successful dental career. As techniques, materials, and technology continue to change, he remains actively involved in education and professional development.
He also believes that the right dental team makes a significant difference in patient care:
“Select the right team members focused on serving their patients and train them well to provide the best service possible. Embrace change and invest in education and equipment to help you provide your patients with better results.”
This focus on continued growth is also reflected in the practice philosophy of “Crafting Lifetime Smiles.”
Outside the Office
Outside dentistry, Dr. Miyasaki enjoys spending time with his family. He likes traveling both within the United States and internationally and enjoys good food, wine, and time outdoors with his wife and family.
